Clarinet in Bb, Harp, and Marimba
A set of character pieces based on three world famous witches. Movement I, based on the witch goddess Hecate incorporates a lot of extended techniques for the instruments to help portray the other worldliness of the goddess. Movement II, is about the Japanese witch-spirit Yuki-Onna. She was famous for leading weary travelers to their deaths in snow storms. The last movement is a caricature of Baba Yaga, a Russian witch who lives in a hut on chicken legs that constantly turns in circles.
Premier performance by Macey Gregg, Darren Heath, and Hannah Helbig at the November 4, 2016 Project 21 Concert at Oklahoma City University.
